The product
Attend Anywhere is a telehealth platform that enables healthcare professionals and patients to connect through remote video consultations.
I worked as part of the engineering team on multiple features, with a significant contribution to group-consultation functionality. My responsibilities covered frontend development, backend integration, real-time communication, bug fixes, QA feedback, and release preparation.
The work involved contributing to an established application, collaborating with other engineers and QA, and integrating changes with existing consultation workflows.
Purpose
The platform supports access to healthcare through video consultations, allowing patients and healthcare professionals to connect remotely.
Group-consultation functionality extends that experience to sessions involving multiple participants. Delivering these features required coordinating the consultation interface, real-time audio and video, and the backend services supporting the session.
My work focused on developing and refining these experiences within the wider platform.
Working within the engineering team
I collaborated with the development team across feature implementation, integration, testing, and delivery.
My involvement extended beyond a single feature. I worked on different parts of the application, addressed issues found during development and QA, and helped prepare changes for release.
This required understanding the existing codebase, coordinating work with other developers, and checking how changes affected connected parts of the application.
Group video consultations
One of my main contributions was helping develop the group-consultation feature using the AWS Chime SDK.
The feature supported multiple participants communicating through a shared video consultation. I worked on the application functionality connecting the frontend consultation experience with the underlying communication services.
This involved coordinating the user interface, session-related application state, and backend integration to support the group-call experience.
Frontend development
I worked with React, Next.js, and TypeScript to develop and improve user-facing functionality.
My frontend responsibilities included building components, integrating APIs, handling application state, and refining interface behavior based on testing and feedback.
Within the consultation experience, the interface needed to reflect changes occurring during a live session. My work involved connecting those changes with the application’s real-time communication functionality and supporting services.
AWS Chime SDK integration
AWS Chime SDK provided the audio and video communication capabilities used for group consultations.
I worked on integrating the SDK with the application, connecting real-time communication with the frontend experience and supporting backend functionality.
This required working across the boundary between the application’s own behavior and the communication events provided by the SDK.
Backend and serverless services
The supporting backend used Node.js and serverless AWS services, including AWS Lambda and DynamoDB.
I worked on backend functionality and integration supporting the features I contributed to. This included connecting frontend actions with APIs and coordinating application data with the relevant services.
The serverless architecture was part of the environment in which these features were developed and integrated.
Feature development and maintenance
Alongside group consultations, I contributed to other application features and ongoing improvements.
My work included implementing changes, investigating existing behavior, resolving bugs, and refining functionality as requirements and feedback developed.
Working within an established product required attention to how each change interacted with existing flows. Feature development therefore included integration work and follow-up fixes throughout the delivery process.
QA passes and issue resolution
I participated in multiple QA passes as features moved toward release.
This involved working with QA to understand reported issues, reproduce unexpected behavior, identify the cause, and implement fixes. After changes were made, I supported re-testing and addressed further feedback where needed.
My QA-related work included:
- Testing implemented functionality during development.
- Investigating issues reported by QA.
- Reproducing bugs and identifying their causes.
- Fixing frontend and backend integration issues.
- Checking connected workflows after changes.
- Supporting regression checks and repeated QA passes.
- Refining features based on testing results.
QA was an ongoing part of the work, with features moving through implementation, review, fixes, and validation before delivery.
Integration and release preparation
I worked with the team to bring individual changes into the wider application and prepare them for release.
This included resolving integration issues, addressing outstanding QA feedback, and checking that completed functionality worked within the existing product.
My contribution covered both building features and following them through the testing and refinement needed for production delivery.

Key engineering challenges
Real-time consultations require the interface, communication layer, and backend to work together throughout a live session. Changes in session behavior need to be reflected correctly in the application, making integration and testing important parts of feature development.
Another challenge was contributing to an established healthcare product. New functionality needed to fit existing workflows, and fixes needed to account for their effect on connected features.
The work also required close collaboration across development and QA. Resolving an issue meant understanding the reported behavior, reproducing it, implementing a fix, and following it through re-testing.
Delivered contribution
I contributed to Attend Anywhere’s group-consultation functionality and other application features as part of the engineering team, working across frontend development, serverless backend integration, real-time communication, and QA-driven improvements.
